The past two months have been an absolute rollercoaster of stress and emotions but I think I am finally back to a state where I can start consistently blogging again. -Sorry for the minor setback.

I’m here to talk to you about what it really means to fall in love with yourself. It doesn’t just mean you can look in the mirror and recognize the fact that you are confident in your skin. Don’t get me wrong, that is a very important step to the whole process but there is sooo much more to it.

First of all, I am going to address something that has taken me a very long time to realize its importance: owning your solitude. If you look up the definition of solitude, there are two different options that come up. The second definition reads “a lonely or uninhabited place.” This is how most of us interpret being alone. But with that being said, we also have to address the differences between being alone and feeling lonely. It took everyone leaving me and going away for college (which made me regret staying home for school instead of going away just that much more) and always feelings like there was never anyone I could hangout with during my free time to realize how “go go go” I’ve been my whole life. I didn’t feel comfortable if I didn’t have at least 3 plans lined up for the week. I hated sitting at home or being at work knowing my friends were out doing something without me. These emotions kept piling up and piling up to the point where I didn’t think I could take another second of it. It was right during my breaking point that I stumbled upon this quote: “Solitude is not the absense of others, rather the presence of oneself.” It was this quote and the sudden notion that I may not have control over my feelings but I sure as hell have control over my thoughts and it was about damn time that I started feeding my brain with more positivity. I knew that change had to be done but I didn't really know where to start so I wrote down a list of changes that I wanted to make for the new year:

-find a passion

-start a blog

-get a new job

-mend my relationships with others/make those relationships stronger

-buy a new car

-find a therapist that is right for me

And I took this list and decided to let it consume me and allow me to grow into who I want to be. I suggest making a list for yourself if you are struggling with feeling lonely because not only will it help you develop yourself and become more at peace with who you are/who you want to become but it also takes up a lot of your time. The busier I am, the less lonely I feel because I know that at least I am being productive. I genuinely believe that the best time to work on yourself is when you feel most alone in the world.

The second point that I want to address is owning your emotions. I have always had a really hard time with owning how I feel and I’ve always been too afraid to voice my feelings. In most situations of high emotion, I will usually just stay silent, try to act tough like I don’t feel anything, or use humor to display my feelings so that I the situation isn’t taken as seriously as I feel it to be. Recently, I was having a really hard time with a situation I was in and my therapist told me to go home and give myself even just 10 minutes to completely let all of my walls down and let every emotion that I was feeling flood my being. And to take those emotions and write them down. Focus on the good emotions first, then allow all of the bad ones to be put to words, second. It is really important to be in tune with your emotions because they affect how you react to things and how you process thoughts or events. It is also very important to be in tune with your emotions because, like I said, you will affect the way you react which is okay but you also need to be taking responsibility for your actions and understand how they could make other people feel. It would be very ineffective to say something hurtful to someone who hurt you instead of owning your feelings and explaining to them that what they did/said hurt you. Owning your emotions and accepting that you have a right to feel them is a huge part of falling in love with yourself.

Now I am going to “quote drop” a few of my favorites that made me feel something or motivate me when it comes to this topic:

“Feel what you need to feel and then let it go. Do not let it consume you.”

“Take full responsibility for your actions, your choices, and your life. You made it this way. If you’re happy, keep going. If not, then choose to do something about it”

Let me set the scene.

You're about 26 years old, sitting by yourself at a coffee shop in New York, flipping through a stack of unorganized notes that you pulled out of a brown leather cross body sack that seems to have been passed down to you from your great grandfather, by the looks of it. Laptop propped open, you scroll through the document that has been saved and saved and saved time and time again with countless hours of time put into its creation. You glance down at your watch that has an image of an old, tarnished map as its face and realize that its time for you to head on home to your loft apartment before the barista has to verbally kick you out; your visit has been well overstayed. You take one last sip of your chai tea before placing the mug in the dish tray and head out the door.

This is how I picture myself at age 26. Which is puzzling because I've never really been a city girl, let alone a New York city girl. But I've never been able to shake this image nor the feeling that it gives me out of my head.

I've always wanted to write a book or have a blog (or both). Just some sort of platform where I can unload my thoughts on to. And for quite some time, I've felt very discouraged in my ability to make this dream of mine come true but that changed recently.

That is how this blog came to be!

Okay so... originally, I wanted to make this a documentation of my "journey to happiness". Therefore, I could not only look back on my accomplishments to see my personal growth but also, in hopes that my readers could take some of the things that I am doing to improve my life and incorporate them into their own lives. So, here is a list of all of the things that bring me immense joy (and will probably be writing about in the near future):

-Learning to live my life as a minimalist

-Transitioning to using strictly cruelty free and vegan products

-Learning to feed my body in the best way that I possibly can

-Doing yoga regularly

-Using natural remedies instead of pills and perscribed/over the counter medicine (using natural oils)

-Learning about the chakras

-Interior design

-Music

-Learning about photography/videography

-Traveling/experiencing new things

-Discovering ethical/sustainable fashion brands

The majority of the things that I listed above had to do with living a healthier and clearer life and I have become so fascinated with learning more about all of these topics over the past year. I have done so much research about these topics and I find it pointless if I didn't share what I have discovered with others.

With that being said, hopefully, one day, this blog will lead me to big things (that being sitting in a coffee shop in NY with a head full of ideas and heart full of passion).

I've always been super into essential oils because of their natural ability to heal the body, physically and mentally. Not only are they organic but they are also cruelty-free (read my last post on cruelty-free beauty to learn more about this)! In this post, I have researched the uses and benefits of the most popular essential oils so you don't have to! (Click here to buy the same starter kit of six different essential oils that I have for less than $15.)

1. Lavender

Lavender is most commonly known for its ability to relieve stress and anxiety. Also, when diffused, it has the ability to aid in sleep because of its calming scent.

2. Tea Tree (melaleuca)

Tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic and, therefore, is amazing for getting rid of acne when mixed with a water base and applied directly to the affected area. DO NOT apply straight up tea tree oil to your skin. It will dry out your skin and irritate it.

(Also, I asked an ear piercer at a local tattoo shop and she told me that, to get rid of bumps that are caused by new piercing, apply tea tree oil to the area for 5 minutes and then rinse it off with water and the bump will disappear in a few weeks at most!)

3. Eucalyptus

This oil can be used for temporarily relieving joint pain. Also, it is a natural decongestant when diffused. The aroma of eucalyptus can also aid in stress relief as well as fatigue. This oil also can help to keep mosquitoes away.

4. Lemongrass

Lemongrass oil has antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. Because of all of these characteristics, it can be used in an assortment of different products (like multi-purpose cleaner!) It can also help to relieve nausea and ulcers.

5. Orange

Most commonly known as a mood booster, it is best used in a diffuser for aromatherapy. Also, similar to tea tree oil, it is great for treating acne when used within facial cleansers because it dries out the skin and works as an antiseptic.

6. Peppermint

When diffused, peppermint can help to calm the mind/relieve stress. It can also be used for relieving headaches when applied directly to the temples and/or jawline. This oil also can help to keep mosquitoes away.

PSA: All of these oils are toxic for animals so, DO NOT diffuse or use these oils around your pets! Not all but most other oils are toxic as well so PLEASE do research on your essential oils before you use them in your home.
